Without knowing it, she has helped save millions of people diagnosed with cervical cancer with her immortal cells. Henrietta Lacks’ HeLa cells provided an open door for the doctors not only in America, but the entire world. Scientists discovered many cures for diseases from these ever reproducing HeLa cells. Soon, the whole world had HeLa cells in almost every lab. Once the hospital realized how important these cells could be, they started giving them away to other hospitals for money. The HeLa cells stood for Henrietta Lacks, the first two letters of each of her names. The doctors at the hospital decided to name these cells the “HeLa” cells.” as it stated in. Gey looked into his lab and saw Henrietta’s cells had multiplied at an uncontrollable rate, almost as fast as they do when they are inside the body. George Gey, Hennie’s doctor before she died, expected her cells to die before the next morning, just like everyone else’s. The doctors working on Henrietta during her sickness, extracted some of her cancerous cells from her cervix, and without asking permission from any of her family members, started using them for experimental treatments. She stayed in the hospital for African Americans that at the time was called the “Negro Hospital.” The cancer cells won this painful “battle,” and Henrietta’s body finally lay in eternal rest. Henrietta was 31 years old when she died. “On October 4, 1951, Henrietta died in her hospital bed with Sadie by her side.” (, 2019). Sadly, Henrietta died of cervical cancer on October 4th, 1951. WATCH THE IMMORTAL LIFE OF HENRIETTA LACKS ONLINE FREE SKINHenrietta showed her best friend Sadie how her skin had turned to “coco-brown to black as coal.” (, 2019) This was a symptom of her spreading cancer tumor. Finally, the doctor at Johns Hopkins Hospital, George Gey, diagnosed her with cervical cancer. She explained how this “knot in her lower abdomen” felt like an “excruciating pain” to the doctors, and they insisted that she came in for a visit. Hennie lived with her spouse, David Lacks in 1941, then the two moved tomonths after the birth of her child, Henrietta became even more concerned about her pain. Henrietta married David Lacks, and the two became a couple at the age of 21. After living with, and sharing a room with her cousin David, they both fell in love with each other. Also, because Henrietta did not go to school, she also worked on the farm during the harvest season. She worked long, tiring hours without pay. Since her uncle owned a farm, Henrietta was required to work in it with David. Henrietta Lacks first met her future husband when she was divided up among her siblings, and Henrietta was placed with her uncle. Henrietta, also known as “Hennie,” was born in Roanoke, Virginia on August 1st, 1920. Also, her cells were the most important cell lines in history of medical research. Those are the cells that keep reproducing and live on forever. A few Henrietta Lacks was an African-American woman whose cancer cells were the source of the HeLa cell line, the first immortalized group of cells. Later Hennie gave birth, but even after that, she still felt discomfort. She was not satisfied and didn’t believe that was the answer to her problem. The film was a box office success, becoming the seventh-highest-grossing film of 2018 with over $856 million worldwide and setting several box office records for an October release. The film received generally negative reviews from critics for its narrative, inconsistent tone, and lack of a stronger connection to its source material, while Hardy's performance received mixed reviews. Venom premiered at Regency Village Theater on October 1, 2018, and was theatrically released in the United States on October 5, 2018. The film was primarily inspired by the comic book miniseries Venom: Lethal Protector (1993) and the story arc " Planet of the Symbiotes" (1995). Filming took place from October 2017 to January 2018 in Atlanta, New York City, and San Francisco. In March 2017, Rosenberg and Pinkner were set to write, with Fleischer and Hardy added in May. Sony also intended for Venom to share the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), but ultimately distanced the film from Spider-Man. In March 2016, work began on a new version that would start a new shared universe featuring the non-Spider-Man Marvel characters that the studio possessed film rights to. In the film, struggling journalist Brock gains superpowers after becoming the host of an alien symbiote, Venom, whose species plans to invade Earth.Īfter Venom's appearance in Spider-Man 3 (2007), Sony attempted to develop a spin-off film based on the character but it did not move forward due to issues with Sony's ongoing Spider-Man franchise. It stars Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock and Venom alongside Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, and Reid Scott. It is the first film in Sony's Spider-Man Universe (SSU) and is directed by Ruben Fleischer from a screenplay by Jeff Pinkner, Scott Rosenberg, and Kelly Marcel. Venom is a 2018 American superhero film featuring the Marvel Comics character of the same name, produced by Columbia Pictures in association with Marvel and Tencent Pictures, and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing. To prepare for performing a piece by memory, I like to practice the piece in segments, sometimes playing the segments out of order, or starting and stopping at odd places this approach cements "landmarks" in my memory, landmarks that are interspersed throughout the piece and that can serve as "rescue" spots in case of a memory lapse. Now, to be totally honest, Matthieu and I are not banjo players, we're guitarists. By listening carefully, we can identify passages that would sound better if they were played more smoothly, or more cleanly, or more expressively once we've identified passages that don't feel quite "right," then we can go back to them, experiment with different approaches, and find ways to play them to achieve a sound that we like. None of the arrangements is meant to be hurried. These arrangements are aimed primarily for the intermediate player. Outside of the visual and aesthetic change the actual layout of each level is exactly the same as the original games. The fact that each and every world features new enemies is astounding, and the visual and gameplay variety in the Spyro games is top-notch, even by today’s standards. It’s not something that struck me when I played the Spyro games originally, but with the Reignited Trilogy, I found myself amazed at the sheer diversity of enemies. There are countless little details like this that are so much fun to revel in.Įnemy designs have also been altered and upgraded, and clearly, some changes have been made to make the experience more palatable in the modern age, like machine gun-toting Gnorcs now carrying Splatoon-like ink guns.įor fans of the originals, though, this is an incredibly nostalgic trip down memory lane, remembering the fun little quirks in each game, or how big of jerks the enemies were. There’s a real attention to detail in these games as well, as anytime Spyro uses his breath attack it scorches the ground immediately around him, or if he scorches a potted tree it’ll burn and drop its leaves. Levels like the Magic Crafters world and Alpine Ridge are now littered with icicles and frosty details, while areas like Cliff Town have much more detail added to the buildings and ground. Many of the worlds and characters of each game have been given a slight redesign, and for the most part, they really work.Įnvironments are lush and packed with detail, like the way grass moves as Spyro walks through it, or the way dust particles glimmer in the sunlight. Toys for Bob has, somehow, found a way to stay true to the original vision of Spyro while still making each game feel fresh and exciting. #Spyro reignited trilogy cliff town upgrade#Let’s get the most obvious thing out of the way first, the visual upgrade with the Reignited Trilogy is simply fantastic. These three titles are pretty unanimously considered the best of Spyro’s long history, and for good reason. The Reignited Trilogy remakes the three original Spyro games from the ground up in Unreal Engine 4 Spyro the Dragon, Spyro: Ripto’s Rage, and Spyro: Year of the Dragon. Now just over one year later the Spyro Reignited Trilogy has arrived, and it proves to be an even more exceptional effort than the N’Sane Trilogy was. When the Crash Bandicoot N’Sane Trilogy released in 2017, many fans hoped we’d see the same treatment given to the adorable purple dragon, Spyro. The booster shields were changed back to the moveable shield binders. Later on, near the end of Gryps conflict, the TR-5 Hrairoo is further refined as an Area Dominance Mobile Armor, similar in purpose to RX-78GP03 Gundam "Dendrobium", but for all three major environment (atmosphere, ground, space). For its main armament, the TR-5 carries a long blade rifle, which is mounted on the underside of the machine in mobile armor form. Aside from this, a few changes were applied during the TR-5's initial service, such as applying an enhanced sensor unit and V-fin onto the head sensor, and replacing the main engines in the backpack with a thermonuclear hybrid jet-rocket engine, as with other machines of the TR series. Due to this, when it was first produced, the ORX-005 Gaplant TR-5, it was instead mounted with booster shields used by TR-1 Hazel. We will greatly appreciate every piece of feedback and use it to improve the game further.Īnd thank you for your interest in ORX - it means the world to us.One problem with the standard ORX-005 Gaplant is the intense G-force produced by the movable shield binders, making it best used with a Newtype pilot. We really do hope that you'll like it, so we urge you to tell us about your experience on our Discord server, on Twitter or right here in the comments. Phew, that's it for today! Now that you know what to expect, we can only wish you a pleasant few hours playing the new demo of ORX. And we've also added a lot of new environment tiles such as lakes, mountains, and forests. We've reworked the random level generation system - now we can say that it's really smart and versatile. They are much smarter than ever before, and it's much easier for us to control them: this allows us to spawn vast crowds of enemies with ease. The AI of standard orxes is vastly improved in this build. In this demo, you will meet just one of them, but he'll make sure that you won't forget this encounter. Bosses are finally here! There will be four different bosses waiting for you at the end of each act of the campaign. Now you can always get an idea of what this particular card does and what it is capable of from just a quick glance. This demo also features the new cards design - we've improved the text descriptions and added new symbols, showing the health, attack, and range on warriors and buildings cards. This feature is expected to improve replayability greatly. You can spend those to unlock new cards in the Encyclopedia, which you could use in your next run. We've implemented a new progression system: now you get special SPARKS points at the end of each battle. We’ve worked really hard to improve the clarity and readability of the interface. The demo features a new version of the UI - with a new mini-map and Corruption indicators. We've added a lot of new cards to the game - now you have a lot more options of what to build and upgrade. Now the reward system feels more organic and is much easier to understand than before. Our aim was to give players relevant options to choose from at every step of the game. The campaign balance has been reworked as well. Now it's more straightforward and intuitive: you can always understand what you get and why, and you also have more control over this process. We've completely reworked the Corruption system and the process of getting new cards in general. The goal is to make the player experience much more diverse than before. We've added a lot of really cool artifacts with powerful effects to the game. There are some cards with minor effects, but many of those are ridiculously strong and are even able to change the behavior and the attack patterns of orxes. Now orxes have battle cards of their own! They can and will play several cards during the fight, drastically changing the situation on the battlefield. It's easy to get lost in all of this so we provide you with a complete list of what's been added or reworked. This new version of the game contains a tremendous amount of new content as well as some significant gameplay improvements. We are proud to present a new demo of ORX. Compressed WorkweekĪ compressed workweek is perhaps the most common flex schedule as it includes a four-day workweek with employees working four ten-hour days. Whether you need to work outside of the office from time to time or can only work during the weekends, a flex schedule can be a win-win scenario for both employers and employees and can take many forms. What Types of Flexible Schedules Are Available? Instead, employees get to choose shifts or time slots that fit them the most throughout the day (or night).Ī flex schedule allows employees to vary the times they begin and end their workday, as long as they are still doing the same amount of work and keep the same or higher level of productivity. In general, that means that there is no strict schedule that is the same for everyone. What Is a Flexible Schedule?Ī flexible schedule provides employees with an alternative to the standard 8 am-5 pm but still totals to a 40-hour workweek. #Flextime schedule meaning how to#In this blog, we’ll dive into the purpose of flexible schedules, their various pros and cons for employees and employers alike, and how to effectively implement a flexible schedule into your business. In fact, a flex schedule is becoming more common as more Millennials and Generation Z employees are entering the workforce. Half are even willing to take a pay cut in exchange.Ī flexible work schedule allows employees to work at their peak productivity levels and gives them the ability to lead a healthy work-life balance. The demand for a flexible schedule has been growing significantly over the last decade.Įven before COVID-19, surveys showed that 87% of employees wanted the opportunity to work from home at least some of the time. Let’s break down what a flex schedule is, its pros and cons for employers and employees, and even answer some FAQs on the topic. The company usually decides the core time depending on the employees’ operational needs, projects, locations, and roles.Working with a flexible schedule is a growing trend for employers, especially given the employee demand. During core hours, employees can make decisions and discuss issues in real-time. Employees have to follow the designated time to be at work.Ĭore hours are the number of hours in a workday, and employees have to be available during those times, regardless of how different their schedules are. On the other hand, many workplaces still set organizational core hours for operational purposes. This arrangement does not affect employees’ responsibilities, their total hours worked, and the goals to be achieved.Įmployees can come and go as they wish in a flexible setting. The flexible daily schedule allows them to come to work, take lunch, or leave. With flextime, employees can integrate their personal lives and work more effectively under flexible conditions. They can still work a similar number of scheduled hours as they do under a traditional schedule.
